DescriptionWatercolor painting study on rectangular off-white paper. Painting depicts an interior domestic scene with a family of five gathered around the hearth; each member is at work on a domestic chore including needlework, washing, and butter churning. Gray stone wall surrounds the hearth and there are wooden beams on the ceiling and wooden floorboards. Hanging from the ceiling is corn and a vessel. Various household goods sit atop the mantel and on the neighboring wall. Long rifle mounted on the front of the mantel. Edges of scene are only sketched in. White margins surround the painted area. Reverse of paper has rough brown texture with two strips of white adhesive tape along top edge. DimensionsHeight x Width: 7.313 x 9.125 in.
