Historical NotesShotput used by Jordan Geist when he competed for Knock High School. Label TextIn his sophomore year at Knoch High School Jordan captured the first of three shot put championships at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and then his first of three PIAA (AAA) state championships in both the shot put and the discus. He set, and still holds, the Pennsylvania high school record in the shot put (76 feet), the discus (208-7), and the indoor record for shot put (76-10.5). At age 8, Jordan Geist decided to emulate his parents, both All-Americans in throwing events. To become a champion in the shot put, he had to build his body and concentrate on perfecting the fundamentals of the sport. Shot putters are generally large athletes with explosive power, but they must also be agile and have great balance. To succeed, Geist spent countless hours focused on building strength and speed, while perfecting his technique through repetitive practice. By the time he got to Knoch High School Jordan dominated his sport. He threw the shot for 60’ as a freshman and began to win regional and state events his sophomore year. As the record throws and the wins accumulated, so too did acknowledgements of his dominance. Named the Pennsylvania Gatorade Athlete of the Year in his junior and senior years (2016 and 2017), Jordan was also a Track and Field News First Team All-American in the shot put those years. His winning ways continued at the University of Arizona where he won the NCAA championship in both indoor and outdoor shot put in 2023.
