Label TextThe flexible flyer was created in the 1880s by Samuel Leeds Allen, the founder of S.L. Allen & Co. in Philadelphia. The company originally manufactured only farm equipment but Allen, a “coasting” enthusiast, decided to produce and sell his sledding creation in order to diversify his product line and provide work for his employees in the winter. The flexible flyer has been a must-have for winter sledding ever since. This particular sled is from around 1920.
