DescriptionGreen and white academic mortarboard tassel. Body is comprised of many green and white nylon(?) fabric strands that are bound near the top with a ribbed brass collar ring. Suspended from ring is brass number. Top of tassel has long green nylon(?) loop that is knotted just above tassel head.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 13.75 x 1.5 x 0.375 in. (34.9 x 3.8 x 1 cm)

Historical NotesTassel from Lynne M. Swartz Jacobson’s mortarboard used at her graduation from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1961. Lynne M. Swartz Jacobson was raised in Squirrel Hill, attended Taylor Allderdice High School, and has been involved in civic and Jewish communal activities for most of her life. She is a second-generation Taylor Allderdice graduate and has overseen reunion activities for the Class of 1961 since the 10th anniversary in 1971. She married Blair Jacobson, who also grew up in Pittsburgh and attended Taylor Allderdice.
