DescriptionPrice marking machine mounted on a wooden base. Machine is silver metal and black painted metal. Proper right side has silver and green hand-crank wheel with wooden handle. Front of machine has circular compartment containing roll of white paper tags with store name printed in blue. Back of base has black metal pull-out drawer containing numerous compartments with metal typesetting characters; back of drawer has two typesetting trays, a green and white plastic container of grease, and a few loose typesetting characters. Base is varnished to a dark red-brown finish. Underside of wooden base is unvarnished and has three flat black rubber feet.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth (Drawer closed): 10.5 x 9.625 x 19.25 in. Roll of white paper tags inside machine have blue printed text on each tag "WEIN'S".

Inside drawer are numerous compartments labeled with contents and contents have typesetting characters on one end.

Inside drawer, one of the typesetting trays has text "7027" and the other has text "J85".
MarksHand-crank wheel has silver text "MONARCH / M / JUNIOR".

Proper left side has circular red-orange sticker with red printed text "MONARCH MARKING SYSTEMS, INC. / Sales & Service / ..."

Front of wooden base has metal plate with red and silver text including "THE / MONARCH / MARKING SYSTEM COMPANY / FACTORIES / LOS ANGELES DAYTON, OHIO TORONTO / MADE IN U. S. A. / MANUFACTURED AND OPERATED UNDER ONE OF MORE OF THE FOLLOWING PATENTS / [patent numbers] / ... / NO. J-7701".

Inside the drawer, the grease container has white and green text including "MONARCH / MACHINE / Special Hard / GREASE / For use on / MONARCH PRICE-MARKING / MACHINES / ...."
Historical NotesPrice marking machine from Wein's Clothing Store. Wein's Clothing Store was a department store in Clarion, Pennsylvania. run by three generations of the Wein family. It was started in 1911 by brothers Philip and Thomas Wein, who had recently immigrated to the United States from Poland. The business was later run by Philip’s three sons, Meyer, Milton, and Charles, and by Thomas’s three sons, Morris, Victor, and Joseph. Morris Wein’s son Alan Wein joined the business in 1982 and later took over the business, overseeing it into the 21st century before closing in 2020.
