Historical NotesDonor Joseph D'Andrea's mother, Candida D'Andrea, made this fabric pouch for her son to take to Instituto Salesiano, an all-boy Catholic boarding school in Genzano, near Rome, Italy. The school instructed new students to bring certain toiletries, like combs and tooth brushes, and his mother made the pouch for him to carry those items. Embroidedred on the patch are his initials, G.D'A., and his student number, 19. Joseph D'Andrea stayed at the school throughout 1943 due to the war. He returned to his village of Roccamandolfi in 1944.
