Historical NotesHarmarville Hurricanes U.S. National Open soccer championship trophy, 1955-1956. The Harmarville Hurricanes were a popular local soccer team from 1947-1967. The team played for crowds of 10,000 at Sunday games and were part of the United States Soccer Football Association. They won the U.S. National Open soccer championship in 1952 and 1956. The late 1940s and early 1950s were a time period when Pittsburgh soccer teams dominated the national soccer scene.
