Historical NotesEthan Gladding and Alexandra Falk created this sign after Donald Trump was elected president in November 2016. It features a globe inside of a red cross, symbolizing medical care. They carried it in the Women’s March on Washington on January 21, 2017 and carried it again in a protest of President Trump in Pittsburgh on October 30, 2018, after the attack at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh. The sign was featured in a photograph of the march by Amanda Borschel-Dan of the Times of Israel. The phrase “Tikkun Olam” is Hebrew for “Repair the World” or “Heal the World,” and has become a common refrain for Jewish groups advocating for social justice worldwide.
