DescriptionOval scapular consisting of pink embroidered border and clear plastic covers, which enclose a white paper oval with serrated edges. The paper has a polychrome image and black text on each side. One side has an image of Jesus Christ and the other side has the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Historical NotesThis scapular was sent to Dena Dortenzo's mother from Italy and put underneath the mattress to protect whomever was sleeping in the bed. Dena spent her childhood in the predominately Italian American neighborhood of Bloomfield in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended grade school at Immaculate Conception. Dena noted that attending Immaculate Conception, where the congregation was made up of first and second generation Italian Americans, many of their Catholic traditions were brought over from Italy.
