Historical NotesThis B'nai Israel commemorative wine glass was most likely given to members at a tribute dinner on June 30, 1996. B’nai Israel Congregation was founded in East Liberty in 1904, making it the first Jewish congregation in the East End neighborhoods of Pittsburgh. The congregation incorporated in 1911 and dedicated a Henry Hornbostle designed synagogue on North Negley Avenue in 1924. Although originally an Orthodox congregation, B’nai Israel gradually moved toward Conservative Judaism. B’nai Israel merged with Congregation Beth Jacob of New Kensington in 1995 to create Adat Shalom in Cheswick, Pa.
