DescriptionVertical band saw. Cast iron base with rectangular footprint. Iron central structure that widens at center to support two flat rectangular table slabs, the front table is larger than the rear. Iron arm curves upward behind tables and reaches over the tables. Proper right side has two spoked wooden wheels with metal facing that have oblong steel(?) saw tooth blade around both wheels; each wheel has eight spokes. Blade goes through front table at proper right center. Cylindrical weight tied with metal wire to front table. Proper left side has drum/wheel off side of base with black leather belt loose on axle. Maker's marks on proper right side of upper section of central arm; on rear of blade guide over front table; and on proper right side of upper base section (behind the lower wheel).DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 89 × 38 × 55 in. Historical NotesThe Simmons Foundry and Machine Shop was established by Simeon R. Simmons of Monongahela, Pennsylvania in the early 1900s. In 1911, cousins of Simeon, Perry, and Frank Simmons founded the McPherson and Simmons Construction Company which today continues as McPherson, Simmons Brothers & Sons and specializes in the design or renovation of religious and institutional spaces.
