Historical NotesDonor Mike Bilcsik was the last President of United Steelworkers of America, Local 1256, before they folded during the 1980s recession. He led the campaign in 1983-1984 to save the Dorothy furnace from demolition. Dorothy Six was the largest blast furnace in the world and once the pride of the Mon Valley. Despite the grassroots “Save Dorothy” campaign, U. S. Steel demolished the furnace two years later.
