Historical NotesHoly Name Society badge from St. Michael’s church. The church was founded as a German parish in 1848 in the South Side, but the building has since been renovated into condos. The Holy Name Society was formed to discourage men from using the Lord’s name in vain or to honor the Lord’s name, but became a society that aided in the mercy work of the Catholic church. There were Holy Name Society’s in many local parishes.
