Historical NotesT-Shirt producted to commemorate the corpse flower blooming. This T-shirt from Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens marked the June 2016 blooming of the exotic “Corpse Flower,” Amorphophallus titanum, also known as the titan arum, a rare plant from Indonesia that blooms only every few years and emits a stinking odor that many liken to rotting meat. The T-shirt was collected because Phipps named their corpse flower “Romero” after Pittsburgh filmmaker George Romero and his connection to the “living dead” of so many Zombie films, especially "Night of the Living Dead (1968).” The T-shirt represents one local institution’s response to George Romero and his legacy and memory in Western Pennsylvania.
