Historical NotesThe Hotel Schenley opened in Oakland in 1898, when Oakland was seen as the new cultural district in Pittsburgh. The hotel is now the William Pitt Union. It was named after Mary Croghan Schenley who owned the land it was built on. The hotel was sold to the University of Pittsburgh in 1956 and received a complete renovation in 1980.
