The sash and hood originated in the papers of Tim Stevens longtime NAACP officer and president of the Black Political Empowerment Project. Stevens had received the sash and hood during his term as president of the Pittsburgh NAACP branch. A letter in the file concerns the provenance of the material found in a Uniontown, PA barn. Shirley Dick of Apollo, PA is the signer. The material documents the Ku Klux Klan and white supremacy in Western Pennsylvania.
