DescriptionSoft cloche hat. Made of different shades of blue silk fabric embroidered all over with worm pattern cording and six large diamond medallions with multi-colored embroidered flower in center of each. Two blue ribbons encircle hat near the base with bow on one side. Hat is lined with brown and gray fabric.Dimensions9 in. (22.9 cm)Marks"Meyer Jonasson and Co."
Historical NotesThis hat epitomizes the flapper headwear of the 1920s and documents a local retailer. The hat belonged to Irene Mae Eckstein (1893?-1956), the mother of the donor Marian Edwards. Irene Mae Eckstein and her husband, Gustav Adolph Baeslack, moved to Pittsburgh sometime after 1914. Baeslack worked for Westinghouse and participated in the Manhattan Project.
