(39.4 x 99.1 cm)Historical NotesBaptismal cape worn by the donor's great aunt Madeline Shaughnessy Kost in 1903 when baptized at St. Mary Magdalene in Homestead; Madeline's parents were also married in this church in 1894. Madeline's grandfather immigrated from England--originally from Ireland--and settled in Whitaker, Pa, where Madeline was born. Her father worked as a Locomotive Engineer at the Homestead Works. In 1936, she married Bernard M. Kost; though they had no children, she worked as a milliner. Madeline died in 2001.
