DescriptionBeige wedding dress comprised of bodice and skirt. Long sleeve. Front of bodice has snap closure with high neck and puffed sleeves around the shoulders; front has ruching and a square lace design. On the back of the bodice, the lace extends around the back and there is ruching at the back which tapers at the waist; ribbon cuff. Full skirt and hook-and-eye closure front.Dimensions16 x 21 in. (40.6 x 53.3 cm)
Historical NotesWedding gown handmade by Emily Medick Kimmich for her wedding in 1896. German immigrant Emily Medick was a personal seamstress to the H.J. Heinz family until her marriage to another German immigrant, Louis Kimmich, in 1896. The family lived at 5412 Broad Street in East Liberty where Louis ran the L. Kimmich barber shop. The family had two children, a daughter named Henrietta and a son.
