Historical NotesPittsburgh Rebbe tzedakah box for collection of coins. Rabbi Josef Leifer was a renowned rabbi in Pittsburgh and a founder of a Hasidic dynasty. His son, Rabbi Avraham Leifer, established a Talmudical Academy in memory of his father. A community of Rabbi Avraham's followers, known as the Pittsburgh Village, formed around the school. Rabbi Leifer was known as the Pittsburgher Rebbe.
