Label TextBorn in Braddock, Pa., artist Joe Jacobs moved from the area when he was a teen. In 1982, after dreaming about his childhood, he spent the next year painting and drawing Braddock as he remembered it from the 1930s. In Purple Mountain’s Majesty, Jacobs depicts the yellow house in which his family lived at 1009 Cherry Way. Agudath Achim Synagogue, the site of his bar mitzvah, is the subject of Synagogue.
