Historical NotesThe painting was painted and donated by the Pittsburgh artist, Mr. Dai Morgan. It took Mr. Morgan approximate 3-4 weeks to complete. Mr. Morgan said he had a difficult time naming the painting and changed the title several times. The piece has been exhibited in art shows in the Pittsburgh area. Mr. Morgan said of the painting, "I was attempting to represent three levels of Pittsburgh culture in one image - recreation, religion and commerce." The stadium in the painting is called George K. Cupples Stadium, located on the corner of Carson and 9th Street on the South Side. It is now the home football field for all the Pittsburgh Public Schools. Formerly known as South (High) Stadium, it was built in the 1930s and underwent renovation in 2003. In the early 1990s, South High Stadium was designated a neutral field and became the facility for all the Pittsburgh Public Schools' football teams. In 1999, it was renamed George K. Cupples Stadium, in honor of a former Director of Athletics. St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Church was built in 1895 and enlarged in 1917. It features Byzantine style architecture and eight "onion" domes, and is on the National Register of Historic Places. It was also designated by Pittsburgh History & Landmarks Foundation as a Historic Landmark.
