Historical NotesThis painting is a scene is of the Miller farmhouse and springhouse on Bancroft Farm in Avella, Washington County, Pennsylvania. The tract, known as “Levin’s Folly,” was purchased by George Miller, Sr. in 1795 and remained in the Miller family until 2000 following the 1999 death of Meadowcroft founder, Albert Miller. The farmhouse pictured was constructed c. 1840 by George Miller, Jr. As of 2020, the main section of the house still stands (the rear addition was removed at an unknown date in the past). The artist, John Anderson, was a cousin of Albert and Delvin Miller. Anderson died in 2019.
