(96.5 × 79.4 × 69.5 cm)Historical NotesThis was used during the 1872 Pennsylvania Constitutional Convention, held in Pittsburgh, by Malcolm Hay, an attorney and Postmaster-General. Hay was a Democratic delegate to the convention, served as chairman of the committee for accounts and expenditures for the convention, and was a member of the committee on militia. Each delegate was given their desk set at the end of the convention. Hay was admitted to the bar in 1865, Hay also served as President of the Mercantile Library of Pittsburgh. Hay was a prominent lawyer in the city of Pittsburgh, a resident of the North Side (Lincoln Avenue), and served as the First Assistant Postmaster General under President Grover Cleveland. Malcolm Hay is the great grandfather of the donor.
