Historical NotesDel's Ristorante and Bar began as a small grocery store at Larimer Avenue and Meadow Street in East Liberty established by Italian immigrants Berardino and Mary DelPizzo. It developed into a restaurant called the Meadow Grill, which later was bought by the Minutello family in 1957. After the DelPizzo's sold their East Liberty restaurant in 1949, their sons Dino and Bob opened Del's in Bloomfield. After Dino passed away in 1974, his widow Josephine and two children, Marianne and John, took over the family restaurant. They remodeled Del's exterior and bar in the early 2000s to reflect the historical architecture of Pittsburgh's East End, which included the neon bar sign, a throwback to the restaurant's early signage. In an effort to keep up with the changing food industry, the restaurant participated in an episode of Food Network's Kitchen Impossible and underwent a small renovation of their dining room and menu. The third generation ran the restaurant until 2015 when it closed.
