DescriptionSide chair. Center of back is upholstered with green (faded) velvet and stuffed with horsehair, some pins missing. The rest of the back is walnut which is carved in scroll like design at the top with two "columns" on either side. Seat is square, upholstered with flower and basket pattern, fabric is torn exposing green velvet underneath (similar to back of chair), as well as dark and light horse hair. Back of chair is covered with the flower and basket pattern fabric.Dimensions37.5 x 19.25 x 20 in. (95.3 x 48.9 x 50.8 cm)Historical NotesPurportedly from the room used by Abraham Lincoln during his stay at the Monongahela House hotel in 1861. Following the demolition of the Monongahela House, it was acquired by Allegheny County and displayed in a "museum" at South Park in the 1930's. This piece, along with other furniture, was rediscovered at South Park in 2007.
