DescriptionShort chair, rounded top, upholstered. Wooden, rounded back chair. Seat covered in tightly-woven imitation leather/canvas that has been coated and dyed; stuffed with straw. Metal buttons on seat. Six bars connect four legs: bulbs on front legs and bars only. Diamond and hourglass-shaped holes on backing.Dimensions31.875 x 20.5 x 18 in. (81 x 52.1 x 45.7 cm)Historical NotesPurportedly from the room used by Abraham Lincoln during his stay at the Monongahela House hotel in 1861. Following the demolition of the Monongahela House, it was acquired by Allegheny County and displayed in a "museum" at South Park in the 1930's. This piece, along with other furniture, was rediscovered at South Park.
