Historical NotesThese andirons were made for George Cochran by Joseph McClurg. His foundry was one of the earliest established in Pittsburgh. It beguin around 1803 and appears in the city directory as late as 1838. It was located at Fifth and Smithfield Streets. The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania purchased the andirons from John S. Walton in 1954.
