Historical NotesPhilip Reymer was the founder of Reymer & Brothers, Pittsburgh. The painting was donated to the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania by Miss. Phyllis Totten.Label TextFounder of the Reymer Brothers Candy Company, Philip Reymer (1824-1893) was born and educated in Pittsburgh. He entered the confectionary and grocery business in 1846, and together with brothers Jacob and Harmer Denny, organized the firm of Reymer and Brothers in 1860-61. A long-time resident of Allegheny City, Reymer was involved in numerous trade and fraternal organizations in the area. After his death, Reymer’s Candy continued in business through the 1950s.
