Historical NotesVase made by the Phoenix Glass Company of Monaca, Pennsylvania, collected to enhance holdings on this regional glass manufacturer. Collected by donor Kenneth L. and Ronald H. Tuma's family, who lived in Monaca in the 1930s. This vase features an iconic Phoenix pattern "bluebell." Phoenix Glass Company began in 1870 in Phillipsburg, now Monaca, Pennsylvania. It first produced lamp chimneys, shades, and globes, but in 1883, the company broke into the art glass field. In the 1930s, Reuben Haley introduced Phoenix's famous "Sculpted Artware" line, which featured multi-colored and three dimensional pieces. The company was purchased by Anchor Hocking in 1970; today it is still owned by Anchor's parent, Newell Company.
