Historical NotesElizabeth Angus Wade was a celebrated Pittsburgh teacher and journalist. Born Elizabeth Angus Wilkinson, she emigrated from England as a child with her family. Elizabeth wrote anonymous pieces for several Pittsburgh newspapers and taught and served as assistant principal at Ralston School; she was eventually promoted to principal. Under the pen name "Bessie Bramble," Elizabeth wrote columns on topics from politics to suffrage to religion for a number of newspapers in Pittsburgh, including the Leader, Dispatch, and Chronicle. She was also involved in founding the Women's Club of Pittsburgh (1875) and the Pittsburgh Woman's Press Club (1891). In 1902, she and her husband left Pittsburgh for the West; she died in 1910.
