Historical NotesWheelchair from the Stevens Chair Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Stevens Chair Company made and manufactured various types of invalid chairs and accessories from their building at 103 Sixth Street. The company most likely began in the mid-to-late 1800s and it is not clear when they closed. The donated chair is No. 15 in their c.1905 catalogue and was the cheapest and most basic invalid chair. All chairs could be special ordered and the company also supplied cushions, book rests, parasols, and other additions for their products.
