DescriptionCard table with rectangular top inlaid with geometric shapes that opens to reveal a green velvet playing surface.Dimensions28.6139 x 16.46 x 23.82 in. (72.7 x 41.8 x 60.5 cm)Historical NotesThis table was owned by the Evans family and was located in the living room of the family home at 1452 Beechwood Boulevard.Label TextUnderstated elegance characterizes the large dining table that once belonged to Fayette County ironmaster Isaac Meason. In 1802, he built an impressive limestone Georgian mansion, named Mount Braddock, outside Uniontown, Pennsylvania. It was certainly one of the grandest houses west of the Allegheny Mountains at that time, a good match for the table. Even though surviving furnishings from the Meason household reveal that the ironmaster owned luxury items imported from the east, or even abroad, the table probably was made locally in Fayette County from walnut and other regional hardwoods. Its maker, nonetheless, crafted a sophisticated and stylish piece of furniture with neo-classical urn inlays, demi-lune ends, and tapered legs, suggesting he was familiar with current design trends popular in eastern cities.
