Historical NotesThree athletic patches that belonged to Estelle Berenfield (EBK). Estelle was born May 7, 1928 in Pittsburgh, to Gertrude and Simon Berenfield, the latter a physician who served several area hospitals in addition to maintaining a private practice downtown. After completing her education at Colfax School and Taylor Allderdice High School, EBK studied music at Carnegie Institute of Technology and completed a master's degree in music education at the University of Pittsburgh. She married Jack Kruman in 1954, and later taught music for Pittsburgh Public Schools. In addition to giving piano lessons at Rodef Shalom Congregation, EBK was a member of the congregation's Sisterhood, and served various community groups, including the United Jewish Federation, National Council of Jewish Women, and Ladies Hospital Aid Society, among others. She died in 2013.
