DescriptionWhite ceramic plate with scalloped rim, gold trim, and pink floral motifs. Along the rim are four floral motifs of pink flowers with green leaves on a light blue background. Historical NotesPart of a collection of Canonsburg pottery and W. S. George pottery. Canonsburg China Company was founded in 1900 to take advantage of natural resources in Canonsburg. A few years later the name changed to Canonsburg Pottery. At about the same time, board member W. S. George split away from the company to found W.S. George Pottery Company. It operated until the 1960s before changing ownership through a series of mergers and finally closing. Canonsburg Pottery continued operation until 1977 before regulations and a declining economy resulted in closure. These items expand the History Center’s existing glass collection while also demonstrating the impact of economic growth and decline in Western Pennsylvanian communities.
