Historical NotesPainting, in its original frame, of St. Paul's on the South Side by local artist J. C. Kilroy. Displayed at the 28th exhibit of the Associated Artists of Pittsburgh. James Cosgrave ("J. C.") Kilroy was born in 1884 and grew up in Mount Washington. Though he never attended high school, Kilroy had an eye for art. He may have begun painting as early as 1915, though most of his artwork date to the 1920s and 1930s. Painting mostly landscapes, Kilroy never sold a painting for profit: he donated them, painted on commission, or gave them away to family, with whom the majority of his collection remain (over 100 pieces of art). J. C. Kilroy died in 1941.
