DescriptionWindow. Twelve-light, arch-top window sash. Wooden framed sides have rabbered channel for sash chain (not present). One-piece, very heavy iron mutin assembly, screwed to wooden frame. Exterior painted a dark green color. Very thick window panes, held in place by putty on exterior side; most panes have a blue-green tint to the glass, while others are a smokey gray, probably indicating replacement over the years. Interior side shows traces of white, yellow, and light-green paint.Dimensions45.5 x 23.75 x 2 in. (115.6 x 60.3 x 5.1 cm)
Historical NotesWindow removed from Dixmont Hospital. Salvaged by donor Mark Berton during the demolition of Dixmont State Hospital. This formidably-built window was obviously designed to be escape-resistant, with metal mutins and extremely thick glass panes.
