Stamped on one side of each cuff is: "THE PEERLESS HANDCUFF CO. / SPRINGFIELD, MASS.".
Below the lock is the number "24725".
Stamped on the other side of each cuff is: "PAT. FEB. 20, 1912 / OCT. 19, 1915 & NOV. 23, 1915 / PAT. PENDING".
Historical NotesThe Peerless Handcuff Company was founded in 1914 by James Milton Gill in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. Gill purchased George Carney's patent for a swing through self locking handcuff. This new design gave officers a significant advantage since it was easily applied and could restrain both hands. Part of the Pittsburgh Police Historical Association collection.
