Historical NotesThe Peerless Handcuff Company was founded in 1914 by James Milton Gill in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts. Gill purchased George Carney's patent for a swing through self locking handcuff. This new design gave officers a significant advantage since it was easily applied and could restrain both hands. Part of the Pittsburgh Police Historical Association collection.
