Historical NotesHigh Holiday cantorial robe and toque that belonged to donor Judith Stein's father, Mordecai Heiser, who was the music director at the B'nai Israel Congregation for almost 50 years. The temple on Pittsburgh's Negley Avenue was founded in 1911. Heiser became known throughout the city for his singing voice. As well as being a cantor, Heiser served as a mohel (ritual circumciser).
