Historical NotesJ.C. Swearingen ink bottle that the donor, Peggy Leadingham, purchased at a thrift store. J.C. Swearingen was a Pittsburgh company that sold ink, glue, binding supplies, etc., all over the East Coast of the USA. It was started sometime in the 1880s by John Cook Swearingen, of Dutch descent, who moved to Pittsburgh in 1882 from Ohio.
