Historical NotesDonor Judith Stein's father, Mordecai Heiser, served as a mohel (ritual circumciser). He used these physician's tools to perform circumcisions. Biblical law requires the procedure to be performed eight days after birth. Heiser was also the music director at the B'nai Israel Congregation for almost 50 years. The temple on Pittsburgh's Negley Avenue was founded in 1911. Heiser became known throughout the city for his singing voice.
