DescriptionSewing kit. Olive drab canvas. Lined with brown leather. Two snap buttons on flap; piece folds four times to close. Plastic window on front flap with card inside bearing printed text. Opened: seventeen safety pins attached to center; attached via two separate safety pins are six brown plastic circular buttons and six white circular buttons; six sewing needles, some with thread; pair of miniature scissors. Historical NotesMIlitary-issue sewing kit belonging to William Himmelstein, donor William Himmelstein's father. Himmelstein lived in the Allegheny Woods Run District of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He and his brother enlisted towards the end of World War I and were not sent overseas. His family owned a local dairy near the edge of Riverview Park.
