DescriptionRectangular magazine cut out covered in tissue and painted paper. The painted paper hasa marbled appearance in either blue or black, with an occassional splash of pink. The image is covered in white pencil scribbles. The back of the piece shows a scene of nine people leaving a party -- five women in fancy dresses, three gentlemen in tuxedoes, and one chauffeur.Dimensions7.062 x 4.25 in. (17.9 x 10.8 cm)
Historical NotesArtwork by the Pittsburgh artist Samuel Rosenberg. Artist and teacher Samuel Rosenberg (1896-1972) had a prolific career in Pittsburgh, leading him to be called the “Dean of Pittsburgh painters.” He is perhaps best-known for his scenes of the Hill District in the 1920s and 1930s. Rosenberg was a beloved presence in the Pittsburgh art world and influenced numerous artists through his teaching careers at the Irene Kaufmann Settlement, Young Men & Women’s Hebrew Association, and Carnegie Tech.
