Historical NotesA dimensionally lettered sign from Mellon Arena collected to document both the Arena and the bank's naming rights for the facility. Mellon paid $18 million to the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1999 to buy naming rights to the arena for 10 years. Up until 1999, the venue had been called Civic Arena. The team worked out a one-year extension in 2009 so that the arena would end its life as a hockey venue with the Mellon name.
