DescriptionAdoria Salon neon sign. Black plastic rectangular backing with colorless glass neon tubes spelling salon name and red glass neon tubes bordering text on top right quadrant and bottom left quadrant. Neon tubes are affixed to plastic backing with clear plastic clips. Backing is dull black on front and shiny black on back. Electrical element on left side of back with rubber electrical cord attached; cord has three-pronged plug at end. Pull chain protruding from electrical element for turning sign on and off. Sign functions except for the broken red neon on the left side of the sign; "Adoria / SALON" glows red orange and the red neon on the right side of the sign glows red.DimensionsHeight x Width x Depth: 18 × 54.75 × 4.875 in. (45.7 × 139.1 × 12.4 cm)
InscriptionsFront has colorless glass neon tubes spelling "Adoria / SALON".

Black adhesive label on back of electrical element has white text featuring manufacturer and product information including "Ventex / Technology, Inc. / NEON POWER SUPPLY - INDOOR TYPE 7 / MODEL: VT12030-120 PATENTS PENDING..." and "S/N 03061963".

Red neon tube on right side of sign has white text "Ruby red neon UX / TECNO n[supercript o]118".

Electrical cord has imprinted text. Face end of plug has raised text.
Historical NotesAdoria Salon was on the 5th floor as of October 1928. In 2004, the Adoria Salon, located on the 12th floor of the Kaufmann's downtown store in Pittsburgh, was closed during the building's renovation and the salon stylists were transferred to other salons in the store. Part of a collection of artifacts that document the downtown location of Kaufmann’s (became Macy’s) department store. This large collection of items was field gathered from the downtown location of Macy’s (formerly Kaufmann’s) after the store’s final closing was announced in the fall of 2015.
