Historical NotesCousins of the donors father came from the Carpatho-Rusyn village of Circ and brought these clothes with them in 1914.Label TextTraditional Carpatho-Rusyn clothing came to American in a variety of ways. Many had it sent over to them and many brought it with them when they emigrated to America. Betty Soltis Swanson’s cousins brought the clothing with them when they came from the Carpatho-Rusyn village of Circ (now in Slovakia) in 1914. While primarily an agricultural village, traditional work also included linen weaving. The patterns and decorations indicate a good understanding of textile production and decorating.
