Historical NotesThe congregation Machsikei Hadas was typical of the shuls (synagogues) formed by Eastern European immigrants. First built on Wylie Avenue in the Hill District in the early 1900s, it moved to a remodeled house on Negley Ave. in East Liberty in the 1950s. It closed in 1989 due to a dwindling congregation. This would have been used to show times that services begin for sabbath.
