(99.1 cm)Historical NotesDress worn by Emma and Catherine Wallisch who were radio performers.Label TextDuring the golden age of radio and vaudeville the South Side born Wallisch sisters, Emma and Catherine, made quite a name for themselves as local performers. Reports of them could be found throughout the papers in the 1920s, called “one of the most popular teams of entertainers in the radio realm,” in advertisements for their shows. They were called a “harmonizing duo” with Catherine performing as a soprano and Emma a contralto. Emma would often play the piano and sing the melody while Catherine sang harmony the compositions they arranged. Although never formally trained, they enjoyed a successful radio career for much of the 1920s and 30s.
