Historical NotesBadge worn by the City of Pittsburgh Sanitary Police prior to the hiring of Herbert J. Dunsmore as the city's first public health engineer in 1948. Dunsmore professionalized the staff and required them to turn in their badges and guns in favor of using education, demonstrations, and public information to spread the message of environmental health.
